AFLAS® (fluoroelastomer, FEPM/TFE-P) is AGC's premium copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene (originally developed by Asahi Glass Co., Japan, in the 1970s), delivering superior resistance to strong acids, bases, amines, steam/hot water, sour gas (H₂S), polar solvents, and many aggressive chemicals, with excellent heat stability up to 230°C continuous (peaks to 250°C). AFLAS O-rings excel in extreme applications across oil & gas (downhole, H₂S environments), chemical processing, automotive (engine oils with amines), power generation, semiconductor, and food processing—often outperforming standard FKM/Viton in base- and steam-exposed seals. Additional benefits include outstanding electrical insulation, low gas permeability, and strong ozone/UV/weather resistance. Typically black with low compression set, they ensure durable, reliable performance in the harshest conditions.
